Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Officers state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then located numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the community for tips.
A senior representative commented the incident left him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
